University of Science And Technology of China (USTC) is a national research university in Hefei, Anhui, China, under the direct leadership of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). It is a member of the C9 League formed by nine top universities in China. Founded in Beijing by the CAS in September 1958, it was moved to Hefei in the beginning of 1970 during the Cultural Revolution. USTC was founded with the mission of addressing urgent needs to improve China's economy, defense infrastructure, and science and technology education. USTC attaches great importance to technology transfer and has incubated dozens of high-tech enterprises. USTC has 1812 faculty members, of whom 42 are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), 14 academicians of the Third World Academy of Sciences, 551 professors and 643 associate professors.

        (1) History

University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) was established in Beijing 1958, and moved to Hefei, the capital city of Anhui province in the early 1970’s. USTC is under the jurisdiction of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).  USTC set up the first graduate school in China in 1978 to effectively cultivate its postgraduate students. Since its very beginning, CAS has adopted a policy of "running the university with resources of the entire CAS and integrating each of its departments with relevant CAS research institutes." It has been one of the first institutions included in China's "985 Program" and "Project 211", and the only university participating in the National Program for Knowledge Innovation. It is one of the C9 League, an association of nine top Chinese universities. As a key university of the nation, it is noted for its advanced science and high technology programs, unique management studies and well-tailored disciplines in the humanities. Furthermore, it jointly built the Institute of Advanced Technology (IAT) with Hefei City in 2012, aiming to better promote the combination of education, research and industry. USTC-IAT focuses on fostering technological innovation and technology transfer in the IT industry, as well as microelectronics, health care, new energy, new materials and quantum information, etc.
